The ship-based radar is an important component of a board weapon system andits functions affect the combat capacity of a ship. The ship-based multifunction radar is required toadapt to changes of a combat model, an environment and combat tasks. Therefore, ship-basedmulti function phased array radar is the principle trend in naval radars. Characteristics of a combatmodel and an environment on the sea are discussed in this paper. The multifunction requirement forship-based radars is analyzed. Finally, development situations of ship-based multifunction phasedarray radars are introduced in the last section.
