Firstly, the paper introduces the feature of solid-state modulator in over-voltage and under-voltage working state and voltampere characteristic curve, and discusses the importance of load line in engineering design. Then, the paper introduces the optional working states of serial switch modulator consisting of 160 IGBT switch tubes and the technical measures must be adopted by driving circuit to satisfy these different working states. After that, the paper introduced IGBT grid driving characteristics and Miler effect and their effect on waveform of gird voltage UGE. The paper lays a solid professional theoretical foundation for analysis and design in successive papers (the middle part and the last part).
